We are looking forward to lots of upcoming events including our Chambers Annual Networking Expo on March 26th, 2008. I am presenting a series of tips and techniques on Networking. I already shared that one of the most important words in networking is the "F" word. Yes, FOLLOW-UP! So many business people go to events collecting cards and names and then do absolutely nothing with them. I have even refrained from handing out cards at some events. For the most part, I prefer to take the cards of those who I connect with and follow-up with them. Of course, I am not telling you not to hand your cards out. However, I am telling you that just getting or giving a card is not enough. If you do network and look for leads to grow your business, then having an organized database is imperative. One of the tools that we use for clients is Plaxo. It is an online database that can sync with your database of choice. For our CRM (Client Relationship Management) clients we usually add their leads into Plaxo which then seamlessly syncs to update their desktop address book and handheld device. This can work for various combinations of address books and handhelds. One of the things that I like about Plaxo is that it is online, so it is a backup of your data should you ever need it. Part of Plaxo's offerings is called Pulse. It is a social networking tool that keeps you linked with others you know whether they are on Plaxo or use other services such as LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube, Yahoo or flickr. It also updates all of the people you are connected with should your information change. I have compiled some information to help you to manage your database more efficiently, download it here-Outlook: MaXimiZed-An inside look at some of the best new features of Outlook 2007. Remember, having an efficient way to maintain your database makes it easier for you to stand out above the crowd while communicating, & connecting with contacts on a regular basis. This is the way to establish solid ties that will create successful long-term business relationships.
